It has been a very mixed week. It started off with a beautiful day on warm sunny Monday when I played golf and managed to win (apparently I only tend to mention these things when I have won – or so it’s claimed). However, it’s also been a stressful week as I have been dealing with a an issue for the diocese.
As I’m writing this I’m preparing for my Induction as Parish Priest this evening by the Dean, my old friend Fr Eugene Campbell. I’m also looking forward to seeing some of my family and other old friends, as well as being formally appointed to this great parish.
This will be my third parish in Bristol and it’s always nice to see people from my former parishes. The Diocese is in many ways one big family. The more you move around it, and serve in different places, the more you see the great similarities as well as noticing the interesting differences between parishes.
The thing that unites us all is our love for Jesus Christ and our desire to proclaim the Gospel in words and deeds to the community in which we live. This is seen quite clearly in the rite of Induction of new Priest and helps to remind both the Priest and the parish of their mission to the world.

Wishing you all the best at St Bons. Good luck Anne Simmons
Dear Bernard,
Living in France for the last 31 years, I have lost contact with the UK includingthe Church. We have become used to the French way of life but I do miss a good sermon. Anyway long story short. Since Covid and with an ailing wife, we found your former parish by chance and attended your Mass online, receiving Communion from a neighbour. Having listened and been deeply moved by your homily this morning, would it be possible to access it weekly in your newsletter, so I can read them again during the week?
Best wishes with your new assignment.
Best wjshes
